March is right around the corner and so the amount of events is really starting to kick up in number. Here are the March events that we have heard about to report on for you. (Of course, if you have any events that you want listed here, or you think should be, just e-mail Gravel Grinder News here.)
The Iowa Spring Classics: Things kick off in Iowa with the Iowa Spring Classics. While the first two events on March 6th in Grinnell and March 13th in Iowa City are mostly gravel events, (over 50% of the courses being gravel), the last one on March 20th near Colfax Iowa will be a 100% gravel course. The first two will only feature sections of gravel mixed in with pavement. These are all sanctioned events with the usual categories.
Pirate Cycling League: Lincol-?-Lincoln, March 13th: The Pirate Cycling League will be putting on the usual spring ride where the group there rides from Lincoln to a neighboring small town and back again. This is basically a group ride and the event is free. Stay glued to the PCL site for the latest on this ride including course and ride times.
Spring Traing in Decorah: March 11th-13th: T.I. vet, Ben Shockey is inviting anyone who cares to come to train on the steep hills around Decorah Iowa. He'll be having three rides with some social activities over the course of three days. Check out all the details here.
Texas Chain Ring Massacre- March 21st: This event is a competitive gravel/farm road loop west and north of Denton Texas. Registration is now open and this should prove to be a tough ride for those up to a good challenge. Check it out here.
Barry-Roubaix- March 27th: Billed as the "Killer Gravel Road Race", Barry-Roubaix is in its second year. This is a sanctioned event and will have two lengths of courses for the racers depending upon the classment. Check out more on the Barry-Roubaix here.
