Race Discussion: July Events

The summer is here and burning up fast! Gravel Grinder News has your events for July lined up here for your consideration.

First up we have the Guitar Ted Death Ride Invitational.
Despite the name, this isn't a race, but a "no rider left behind" group ride. That said, this years course, a repeat running of last years, will be tough. 118 miles with six feet shy of 10,000ft of climbing. Considering that the first 25 miles or so is flattish to rolling, that's a brutal course! This ride starts out on Saturday morning, July 17th, and is free. There will be a camp-over that night as well. For more details check out the link here.

Next up, on the same day, we have the Ponca 155. Another ride similar to the GTDRI in that it isn't a race, but a group ride from Lincoln, Nebraska to the Ponca State Park where the riders will camp over night and return by automobile the following day. (Although some riders may actually choose to ride back!) Keep checking the Pirate Cycling League's blog for more updates. This is another freebie event!

After that mess-o-gravelly goodness, you can check out the Farmhouse Classic. Put on by gravel aficionado, Joe Fox, this will be approximately 80-90 miles of rolling Missouri gravel roads. Joe will need you to pre-register so he knows who is in or out. Camping, breakfast, and more is going down on July 24th, so check into the details here. Joe says this is a "race/ride", so be prepared for traveling gravel fast!

Next up and last on our list is the Flint Hills Death Ride now in its 18th running! (Just goes to show you that gravel events have been around awhile!) Much like the Dirty Kanza 200, only a shorter 70-ish miles, the FHDR is a cooker that will challenge the best cyclists out there. Check this out from their site:

"The DEATH RIDE is not for complainers, whiners, crybabies or the weak of heart. If you are not physically and mentally fit don’t bother coming; we don’t want you!"

Awesome!

The Flint Hills Death Ride has a pre-registration and you can go here for those detailsThis one goes down on July 24th-25th

That's a wrap on July events! Get your gravel on!
