This is largely due to the event's director, Chris Skogen. It was revealed in a post on the Almanzo site today that Mr. Skogen is beginning a search for a suitable director for this outstanding event. Citing the event as something that has left him"....Physically, mentally, emotionally and financially exhausted. ", Mr Skogen states that it is time for someone else to take up the reins of the Almanzo.
Although Mr. Skogen says the event must change hands, he also is keen to see it grow and do so in the way that he has molded the Almanzo from the beginning.
Gravel Grinder News will be keeping tabs on any further developments regarding this Midwest gravel grinder classic.
Update- 10/17/12; Mr. Skogen now has posted on the Almanzo site that an agreement has been reached which allows him to stay on and has brought on certain individuals as helpers to put on next year's Almanzo 100.

Them are gonna be hard shoes to fill. I know very few people on this planet that are as passionate about cycling and bringing people together than Mr. Skogen. Almanzo will live on, too many people's lives have been changed by this event, including mine, for it to go away. This is one of the only gravel events that I've attended where it felt like you were part of his extended family, whether you were camping in his backyard (which I've done), or staying at a hotel in Rochester or Spring Valley, you always felt welcome and a part of something special.
Maybe this will finally give him a chance to race this monster he created.
Yes, Chris is still at the helm. We were so stoked that we wrote him a song.
