One Speed Open Update

New details have surfaced for this upcoming event which is happening soon.

Here are a few things from their site to chew on.....

"The "classic" course will be around 45 miles since 30 miles always seem to go by too fast.  This is the course for those looking for an All-Out Throw Down.

The "lite" course will be around 25 miles. This is the course for the curious, the hungover, the cautious rookie...

Prizes for both, "Classic" and "Lite" top 3 finishers and fastest lady."

GGCows: Winter Gravel Action In NoDak

Get out and grind some gravel in mid-December? In North Dakota?

Yes!

Do the Gravel Grinder Celebration of Winter Solstice ride, (GGCows- get it?), on Decmber 15th, 2012. Here is a bit of info I was passed in regards to the ride:

The original, the oldest, the premier winter gravel grinder event in North Dakota.

GGCOWS Metric Century - GUARANTEED to bring you to Climax!

NEW this year - GGCOWS lite. 33.5 miles (sadly, you will not experience Climax)

Okay then! Guess you better go long if ya want the whole experience, eh? Well, if you need to know more, here is the link to the site.

2013 Changes

Hey folks out there in gravel grinder land! It's getting down to the nubbins of 2012 and there are a few changes on the horizon for Gravel Grinder News.

The Calendar Of Events: First up- the events list on the side bar is gone now. All events will be listed on the Calendar Page, which is linked just under the header for this site. The side bar listing worked when the site started, but it quickly became a confusing mess, as the events piled up and being listed in alphabetical order, instead of chronologically, which was confusing. The Calendar Page is a much easier way to see where the events fall in the year.

I'll be fine tuning the Calendar Page as well. Plans are to help you as you look at the calendar to see with a glance what state the event is in, and what type of an event it is. I am working on something for this and should have it implemented by the end of the year.

In the meantime, please submit your 2013 dates ASAP and I'll get them up on the calendar.

Product Reviews: Gravel Grinder News is going to have a few more product reviews in the future. GGN will also accept submissions from riders on gear. All submissions are subject to approval by Guitar Ted. If you are interested in doing a review, or want to send in a product for review, just contact us here through the e-mail link  which is found in the right column on the site here.

Once again- this is your site. Make it happen by submitting rides, reports, or interesting tidbits. I'll see to it that the material gets on the site if it is worthy.

Thanks and I look forward to serving the gravel community through this site in 2013 and beyond.

Ride On!

The 2013 Calendar

Hey all you grinders and promoters of gravel and back road events! It's time to refresh the calendars for next season. If you have an event date to forward on an annually held event, or if you have a new date, hit up Gravel Grinder News and let us know! We'll get the word out and put your event on the calendar.

All events must have over half the distance in gravel, and no more than 10% in single track. All events listed must have an on-line link that readers can go to for more information on your event. Send any info for qualifying events by clicking this e-mail link.

This is your site! Make it happen.

Holiday Ramble II

Got some free time to get your gravel on in Texas come November 18th? Then the Holiday ramble may be for you. It's a metric century in length, and should be a good time coming from the minds of the folks at Spinistry who have been putting on several gravel grinders in Texas.  Here's a little bit from their description of the event:

"The Holiday Ramble is a metric century(ish) gravel grinder starting at 10 am near Gainesville, TX.

The route is a full on gravel grinder featuring a unique combination of dirt roads and desolate country roads that promises to be both scenic and challenging. Riders will be able to enjoy a fantastic route that starts and ends in the "civilized" area outside of Gainesville in Oak Ridge, TX while meandering through some scenic rural areas which venture northwards towards the Red River."

Plus I am hearing that Spinistry will be providing the (almost) world famous Spinistry BBQ for everyone who shows up. Coupon code ten off saves folks $10 and left over proceeds will be forwarded to another group who are putting on a cancer ride in January.
